In Canada, candidates are entitled to a total of three attempts at a clinical exam or alternative. If you have attempted the clinical exam once or twice and were unsuccessful, you can register to take the clinical exam again at a future date. If you are unsuccessful for a third time, you are no longer eligible to attempt a clinical exam.

Candidates will receive their results eight weeks after their exam date. The College will send you an email to let you know that your results are available in the PT Portal.

In Canada, candidates have three attempts to successfully complete a clinical exam. These attempts include any clinical exam or alternative exam pathway held in any province.

Additionally in Ontario, anyone who went through the exemption policy is required to successfully complete the screening interview component. If a candidate is unsuccessful in the screening interview, this will be counted as one of their three clinical exam attempts.

Similarly, if a candidate does a practice assessment as part of the exemption policy, and they are unsuccessful, it will be counted as one of their three clinical exam attempts.

Exam attempts do not reset with the Ontario Clinical Exam. All candidates have three total attempts to successfully complete a clinical exam.

Contact exam@collegept.org with all information they would need to review your situation, such as the date you passed the written exam, dates of previous clinical exam attempts, and a description of the circumstances that led to the delay in challenging the clinical exam.

The exam team will work with your proctor and examiners to assist you should you have any issues on exam day and document the issue as an incident.

If the resolution of an issue takes a few minutes, you may be granted additional time to complete your exam. If you encounter a major issue, the exam team will work to determine the cause of the issue and work toward as solution, if possible.

Lack of candidate preparedness is not an acceptable excuse for failure to meet technology requirements.

If there is a power outage or internet outage, call the exam team directly. We strongly recommend saving the CPO’s number for the exams team in your phone in the event you need to contact us quickly.

Power outage: The exam team will need to confirm the power outage on your service providers outage map. If not present on the outage may or if it is the result of a specific incident, such as an accident, the exams team will indicate what documentation is required. The exams team will work with you to determine next steps.

Internet Outage: The exam team will need to confirm the power outage on your service providers outage map and will require documentation that the technology requirements were previously met. Internet outages that are found to be the result of candidate tampering are a violation of the candidate conduct policy. Violations of the candidate conduct policy may result in invalidation of results, review of exam eligibility by Exam Committee, and could impact registration to the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

All candidates should complete the required checks outlined in the technology requirements document at the time of registration; however, it is also the candidate’s responsibility the ensure that they continue to meet all requirements up to and including the exam day.

It is strongly recommended that candidates complete the required technology checks multiple intervals such as at the time of registration, and 1 month, 1 week and 1-2 days before their exam date and document their results. All checks should be done using the device you will be using on exam day, from the location you will be completing your exam and using the same internet connection you will be using on exam day. If you decide to change any of these variables, or have any upgrades (change your location, upgrade browser or operating system, upgrade internet package or change your internet provider for example) you should complete all tests again and document your results.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that they meet the technology requirements on exam day. If your technology does not work and you are unable to start or complete the exam, you must be able to demonstrate that you had taken all the necessary precautions leading up to the exam to ensure technology requirements were met.

Completing the checks in advance of your exam at regular intervals ensures that there are no surprises on exam day. Additionally, you should re-do all the technology checks if anything in your set up changes leading up to the exam. This could include a new device, upgrading your operating system or browser, changing your computer settings, or changing your internet provider, service package, or updating hardware associated with your internet provider.

Completing tests well in advance of the exam day establishes a proven baseline and continuing to test closer to the exam day demonstrates that your device and internet routinely meet the technology requirements. All completed tests should be retained by candidates in the form of a screen shot that also shows the date and time the test was completed.

All candidates should consider hardwiring their laptops into their router to ensure they have the best connectivity and internet speed. Frequent checks are quick, easy to do, and reduce the risk of issues on exam day.

You should review the room requirements far enough in advance that you have sufficient time to find an appropriate location and/or prepare your room. For example, you may decide that your home is not an appropriate place for you to complete the exam and decide to complete the exam from a different location such as your work, a rented room at a workshare, or at a family members home.

Regardless of your location it is important that it meets the room requirements. If you are completing the exam from work or even a shared dwelling, check with your building manager to ensure that fire alarm testing is not scheduled on the day of your exam. Once you have decided on your location, it is recommended that you have your room fully set up 1-2 days before your exam. If possible, try working for a few hours in your room as it will be set up on exam day so that you can make small adjustments for your personal comfort before the exam starts.   

Yes, 3mbps is the bare minimum to maintain a connection during the exam, but only if it is consistent. This means that if your internet does not fluctuate at all and always remains at least 3mbps then you should not have an issue. A higher upload and download speed will improve the quality of your connection and give you more wiggle room if there is fluctuation in the strength of your internet connection.   

All candidates are required to review the technology requirements as soon as they register for an exam session and complete the required checks frequently leading up to the exam day. If you are unable to meet the technology requirements, please contact the exam team directly at exam@collegept.org.

Contact the exam team directly at exam@Collegept.org. Candidates that have genuine difficulty meeting the internet requirements due to their geographical location may be able to complete the exam at a centralized location.

Start by completing the required testing to get your baseline. To enhance your internet connection, we recommend the following actions:

1. Plug your device directly into your router using an ethernet cable (also known as hardwiring your device)

2. If hardwiring is not an option due to the router location, try out a Wi-Fi booster/signal booster/pod. These are devices that improve Wi-Fi coverage to other areas of your home.

3. Reduce traffic. Ensure that no one is accessing your internet services while you are completing the exam. Streaming and online gaming services by other devices during your exam may impact your connection.

4. Contact your internet provider. Usually, your provider will quote the upload and download speed in the package you are paying for. If your speed tests reveal a lower upload/download speed than quotes in your service agreement your provider may be able to assist you by adjusting your service or updating your hardware to increase the quality of your internet. You may also consider upgrading your internet package.

*Make sure you run tests again after hardwiring, installing wi-fi boosting/enhancing devices, or switching plans with your internet provider to quantify the increase in internet speed.
