PISA (Professional Issues Self Assessment)

PISA or the Professional Issues Self Assessment is a short, multiple choice, online exercise that must be completed annually by all registered physiotherapists (both Independent Practice Certificate and Provisional Practice Certificate holders).

PISA is an opportunity for you to assess your awareness of practice issues, reflect on practice-related questions and have a look at resources and Standards on the College’s website.

It is short (13 questions) and is not scored (that’s right, there is no pass or fail).

PISA is available for completion from February 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024.

The PISA exercise is available on February 1, 2024.

You can access PISA through the PT Portal.

Enter your email address (the one you use to receive College communications) and your password. There’s a “Forgot your Password” option if you’ve forgotten it. Once you’re signed in, you will see a PISA section in the menu on the left. From there, you will see your PISA for the current year, which includes a link to complete it.

Anyone registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario as of January 31, 2024, can complete PISA. That includes people with Independent Practice Certificates of Registration and Provisional Practice Certificates of Registration. 

No, you will not be required to complete PISA if you choose to resign.

If you would like to resign, please submit a resignation notice. Go into the PT Portal, click SIGN IN and look for Submit a Resignation Notice under Profile. Your resignation must be received before March 31, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

No. The Jurisprudence Module is designed to help physiotherapists understand the legislation, rules and Standards that govern practice in Ontario. It takes place every 5 years and is a pass or fail test. You must also complete it within the first year of being registered with the College.

PISA is an annual, online self assessment that gives you a chance to reflect on your practice.

In 2024, PISA runs from February 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024.

It will vary from person to person. Take the time you need to understand the rules and Standards and what is the best thing to do in certain circumstances. Use this opportunity as a refresher.

You cannot pass or fail PISA.

PISA is NOT a test. It’s a self assessment exercise designed to give physiotherapists a chance to review the Standards and rules that govern practice. The only information the College captures is if you completed all 13 questions.   

You are however required to complete it by March 31, 2024. If you do not complete it you could be referred to the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee.

Yes, it is. You will be given the option to choose English or a French in the top right corner of the screen once you log into PISA in the PT Portal.

At the end of PISA, you will see a confirmation page that indicates that you have successfully completed PISA. The College will keep a record that you have completed PISA.

Please do! We encourage everyone to use PISA as an opportunity to talk to their peers, collaborate, discuss and learn. You are very welcome to discuss PISA as a group. We have heard of people doing it as a lunch and learn or getting together with friends outside of work. All we ask is that each individual PT log in and complete it on their own so we have it for our records. 

No, you will not. The College has not required this for many years. We have a record of who does and does not complete PISA (and we follow up with anyone who does not). You do not need to keep any record as the College has it on file.
