Physiotherapy Competency Exam: Update and College Issues a Request for Proposals

The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is inviting proposals for the development, implementation, and ongoing delivery of an alternative entry to practice clinical exam.

Regrettably, candidates challenging the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) clinical exam continue to face barriers that hinder their ability to complete the exam and attain their full registration.

While some candidates have successfully completed the exam in the last five days, CAPR continues to experience significant and ongoing issues.

The College’s Registration Regulation requires that applicants pass a clinical examination to be registered with an Independent Practice certificate. However, the College can decide what examinations it will use to assess the competency of applicants, as long as the examinations meet the requirements of the Registration Regulation.

Due to ongoing delays with the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE), the College is seeking a qualified organization to develop, implement, and administer an alternative clinical exam. Proposals must be received by 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 24.

Further, all provincial physiotherapy regulators will meet this week to discuss the PCE and explore possible options to assist candidates in waiting.
