Standards June 2024: Collaborative Care, Conflict of Interest, Dual Practice, Infection Control
About the Proposed Standards
Background
The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is inviting comments on four draft Standards of Practice:
- Collaborative Care
- Conflict of Interest
- Dual Practice
- Infection Control
On June 25, 2024, the Board approved the Standards to go out for a 60-day consultation to registrants, our partners, and the public. After the consultation closes, the Board will consider the feedback received and decide whether to approve the Standards for use.
What do the Proposed Standards Cover?
Below, you'll find a description of each Standard’s outcomes and if it would be a new Standard for physiotherapists in Ontario.
(1) Collaborative Care
Physiotherapists work with other healthcare providers to give patients safe and effective concurrent care tailored to their goals, needs, and preferences.
This would replace the College’s existing Collaborative Care Standard.
(2) Conflict of Interest
Physiotherapists recognize, avoid, or otherwise mitigate any conflicts of interest to prioritize the best interests of their patients.
This would replace the College’s existing Conflict of Interest Standard.
(3) Dual Practice
Physiotherapists clearly identify instances when they are providing non-physiotherapy services.
This would be a new Standard.
(4) Infection Control
Physiotherapists adhere to infection prevention and control protocols to ensure a safe environment for their patients, themselves, and others.
This would replace the College’s existing Infection Control and Equipment Maintenance Standard.
