The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is the regulatory body established by the provincial government to oversee the practice of the 13,000+ physiotherapists in Ontario. The College is responsible for protecting and serving the public interest by ensuring that physiotherapists provide high quality, competent and ethical services.
In Ontario, only an individual registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario may refer to themselves as a physiotherapist or physical therapist or use any abbreviations of these titles.
While physiotherapists may use assistants / support personnel to assist with the delivery of treatment, these assistants cannot conduct assessment, re-assessments or make determinations about care including decisions related to the discontinuation of care.
The College has recently received information suggesting that Jay MacDonald of Simcoe, Ontario has been holding himself out as a physiotherapist / physical therapist.
Mr. MacDonald is not registered with the College. As such he is prohibited by law from referring to himself as a physiotherapist / physical therapist or using any abbreviation thereof. Patients who receive treatment from Mr MacDonald should not be under the impression that he is a physiotherapist.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the College’s website at www.collegept.org in order to learn more about the College. The Public Register which is available on the College website will allow you to confirm if an individual is registered with the College.
