Council Highlights — September 23, 2022

This was the first Council meeting since the unexpected passing of our Registrar, Rod Hamilton. Council honoured Rod’s life with a moment of a silence and one of Rod’s favourite sayings: Kindness is free.

Council and College staff would like to thank everyone who sent kind thoughts or shared fond memories of Rod in the last few weeks. We will continue to carry Rod’s values, passion for the physiotherapy community, and commitment to public protection in our work going forward.

Highlights from the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario’s Council Meeting on September 23, 2022

• Council and Committee members participated in education sessions regarding sexual abuse awareness and governance.
• Council appointed Einat Mei-Dan, Juliana Castro and Sharon Gabison to the Registration Committee, effective September 23, 2022.
• Council approved by-law changes which include increasing the Independent Practice Certificate registration fee to $635 a year and all other registration-related fees by 10.5%. The annual renewal fee for 2023/2024 will be $635 and all other fees changes will go into effect April 1, 2023.
• Council was provided with an update on the Ontario Clinical Exam (OCE), and made the following decisions in relation to the exam:
  • Council approved the new exam fee by-law in principle. The exam fee by-law will undergo a 60-day consultation period. The results will be reviewed by Council in December 2022. Provide feedback on the proposed by-law here.
  • Council voted to establish an Examinations Committee (a non-statutory committee) to support the Ontario Clinical Exam and Council approved the proposed Terms of Reference.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for December 12 and 13, 2022.
