Physiotherapy Competency Exam Update: September 14, 2021

The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario was just made aware of the decision by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) Board of Directors to cancel the virtual clinical component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE).

Effective immediately, all scheduled dates for the clinical exam are cancelled. The College is deeply disappointed in the administration and multiple cancellations of the clinical exam. We understand that today’s announcement adds another layer of complexity to an already stressful situation for the physiotherapy community.

We would like to extend our sincere apologies to the candidates who have worked diligently to prepare for the exam. The ongoing issues and cancellations are unacceptable. We remain committed to the goal of registering candidates in independent practice as soon as possible.

We appreciate that this announcement will raise a lot of questions and we apologize that we do not have answers for you at this time.

Following this unexpected announcement and given the urgency of the situation, College staff will be in meetings for the remainder of the week with physiotherapy regulators, associations and other stakeholders to discuss next steps.

The College will continue to recognize and extend all Provisional Practice certificates until further notice.

We will do our best to answer your questions and concerns and will continue to share updates as they become available. Thank you for your ongoing patience.
