Get Involved

“Nothing about me, without me”

A big part of meeting our mandate to serve the public interest means ongoing, meaningful engagement with members of the public including patients and caregivers, as well as with physiotherapists. Your involvement in regulatory activities is critical to ensuring that we are doing our job properly.

Below are some ways that members of the public and physiotherapists might engage with the College specifically, or become more involved in health regulation generally.

Opportunities for the Public

Citizen Advisory Group

Consider joining the Citizen Advisory Group to share your experiences with healthcare in Ontario.

The Citizen Advisory Group brings together a large group of health regulatory colleges, including the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. This partnership is dedicated to engaging patients and caregivers in the work of health regulators and promoting collaboration.

The Citizen Advisory Group brings both the patient and the caregiver voice and perspective to our work. It is not a decision making group, but instead provides essential feedback on a range of issues. Participants draw on their experiences to share feedback on policies, standards of practice and public-facing communication from various colleges.

Participate in Consultations

The College regularly posts online consultations about the rules and standards that govern physiotherapy practice in Ontario. As consumers of physiotherapy services, the patient and caregiver voice are very important to our consultation process.

Please take even a few moments to review open consultations and share your feedback.

Become a Public Board Member

The College’s Board of Directors includes five to seven members of the public appointed by the government.

Public Board Directors come from across the province and represent a range of experiences and backgrounds.

If you’re interested in becoming a Public Board Director, you can visit the Public Appointments Secretariat website to learn more about the process and how to apply.

Opportunities for Physiotherapists

Become a Board Director or Committee Member

The College’s Board of Directors includes eight physiotherapists from regions across the province. Physiotherapists are elected by their peers and serve a three-year term. Visit the Board, Committees and Elections page to learn more about the election process.

Physiotherapists can also apply to be appointed to serve on College committees as non-Board Committee members. We recruit for these roles on an as-needed basis, usually in the spring. Recruitment notices are posted on the Careers page.

Apply for Contract Roles

There are opportunities for physiotherapists to get move involved with the College through contract roles including assessors for the Quality Assurance program, examiners for the Ontario Clinical Exam, practice enhancement coaches and peer opinion providers.

We recruit for these roles on an as needed basis. Recruitment notices are posted on the Careers page.
