About the Proposed Standards

Background

The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is seeking comments on two draft Standards of Practice:

  1. Evidence-Informed Practice
  2. Titles, Credentials, and Specialty Designations

On March 25, 2024, Council approved the Standards to go out for a 60-day consultation to registrants, our partners, and the public. After the consultation closes, Council will take into account the feedback received and decide whether to approve the Standards for use.

What do the proposed standards cover?

Below, you’ll find a description of each Standard’s outcomes and whether it would be a new standard for physiotherapists in Ontario.

  1. Evidence-Informed Practice

Physiotherapists integrate the best available evidence, their expertise, and patient needs and preferences to deliver evidence-informed physiotherapy services.

This will be a new Standard.

  2. Titles, Credentials, and Specialty Designations

Physiotherapists use their protected title and other credentials in line with regulatory rules, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and meaningful representation while avoiding any misleading information.

This would replace the College’s existing Restricted Titles, Credentials, and Specialty Designations Standard.
