Physiotherapy Competency Exam Update: September 1, 2021
The launch of Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) clinical exam is now one week away, with the first exam scheduled for September 8 and a series of exam dates to follow.
We would like to reiterate that based on our regular, ongoing communication with CAPR, we are confident the exam will proceed as scheduled.
We have been kept fully informed on the progress of the examination and have actively participated in extensive testing. All information we have received to date indicates that the exam will be successful, and we look forward to registering candidates as swiftly as possible.
A successful launch of CAPR’s clinical exam is the fastest, most efficient way for the College to register the number of candidates waiting in Ontario, within the parameters of the provincial legislation. However, as discussed during the June Council meeting, we need to ensure that an alternate option is available as soon as possible, should further issues arise with CAPR’s exam.
Rest assured that while we are expecting a successful launch on September 8, we are also prepared to take action if needed. We are committed to ensuring a path to registration in independent practice is available to all waiting candidates as soon as possible.
Looking beyond the launch of the clinical exam next week, the College is also engaged in critical conversations to address the longer-term questions regarding the future of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam and best practices in the entry to practice process and regulation.
The Entry to Practice Working Group will continue to meet to undertake this work and we look forward to sharing updates as they become available.
We fully appreciate that this has been a very challenging situation for candidates and the physiotherapy community. We will continue to monitor the situation leading up to the exam and will share any new information that becomes available.
We wish all candidates every success as they prepare to challenge the exam on September 8 and the dates to follow. We look forward to registering you with the College.
Have a safe and enjoyable Labour Day weekend.
