The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario is the regulatory body established by the provincial government to oversee the practice of the 7000 physiotherapists in Ontario. The College is responsible for protecting and serving the public interest by ensuring that physiotherapists provide high quality, competent and ethical services.

In Ontario, only an individual registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario may refer to themselves as a physiotherapist or physical therapist or use any abbreviations of these titles.

The College has recently received information suggesting that Paresh Amin of Brampton, Ontario has been holding himself out as a physiotherapist / physical therapist.

Mr. Amin is not registered with the College. As such he is prohibited by law from referring to himself as a physiotherapist / physical therapist or using any abbreviation thereof.

Mr. Amin is affiliated with Nancy Physio, a clinic in Brampton.

He may use the initials “PTA” which is a common abbreviation or acronym used to describe physiotherapy support personnel. While support personnel can be used to augment the delivery of physiotherapy care, they must be supervised by a registered physiotherapist in order for the care to be invoiced to payors as care provided by a registered physiotherapist. Support personnel are not regulated in Ontario.

Should you become aware of any conduct of this nature please notify the College.

The public is encouraged to visit the College’s website at www.collegept.org to learn more about the role of the College. The Public Register, available on the College’s website, allows you to confirm if a person is registered with the College. You may also want to do an internet search of the name of the clinic and the physiotherapist’s name to learn more.

Should you have any questions with regards to this matter, please contact Investigations at investigations@collegept.org or 416-591-3828 ext. 227 or 1-800-583-5885 ext. 227.
