Registration Committee Decisions
Registration Committee Decisions
Applications that do not meet the College’s registration requirements as specified in the General Regulation Part III: Registration are referred to the Registration Committee for consideration.
The Committee will review key information related to an application that does not meet the registration requirements and decide whether the applicant should be issued a certificate of registration and if any terms, conditions or limitations should be implemented to help protect the public interest.
About the Committee Review Process
The applicant will be informed when their application is referred to the committee for review, and provided with more information about the process, timing and their options.
The applicant also receives a copy of all the information the committee will consider.
At this point, the applicant has three options:
- Continue with the committee review process without providing any additional information.
- Continue with the committee review process and provide additional information (like a written letter or additional evidence) to the committee within 30 days.
- Remove their application from committee consideration.
If the next committee meeting date is known and within 30 days, the applicant will be told that they have an opportunity to have their application reviewed at an earlier meeting (although 30 days has not passed). An applicant must notify the College in writing if they would like to waive their 30-day submission period. Applicants are not permitted to attend committee meetings.
The committee’s decision will be issued in writing as soon as possible after the meeting. The College aims to issue all decisions within 30 days of the meeting.
Typically, the full committee review process takes eight to 10 weeks.
Possible Outcomes
Based on the available information, the committee can decide to:
- Direct the Registrar to issue a Certificate of Registration
- Direct the Registrar to issue a Certificate of Registration if the applicant successfully completes examinations as specified by the committee
- Direct the Registrar to issue a Certificate of Registration if the applicant successfully completes additional training specified by the committee
- Direct the Registrar to impose specified terms, conditions and limitations on the applicant’s Certificate of Registration
- Direct the Registrar to refuse to issue a Certificate of Registration
Applicants can request a review of the committee’s decision by the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board. Information about the appeal process is shared with the applicant when they receive the committee’s written decision.
