Web Privacy

The College of Physiotherapists Ontario respects your right to privacy when you visit our website.

We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your information by complying with our legal obligations under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004.

Our Privacy Code and Web Privacy Policy govern the College’s practices with respect to information obtained through this website.

Web Privacy Policy

Scope

This policy applies only to this website (www.collegept.org). It does not cover the practices of other organizations or their websites, including those you may access through any links that we share.

We encourage you to read the privacy policies of all websites you visit, especially if you provide any personal information.

Information We Collect

When you visit our website, we automatically collect some limited information. This is not personal information and cannot directly identify a specific person. For example, we track Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or browser type. This is necessary for the operation and security of our website.

At times, you may choose to give us your personal information. For example, we collect your email address when you ask questions through email such as info@collegept.org. This information is shared only with College staff who need it to respond to your request.

We also analyze non-identifiable website traffic data and collect cookies to improve our services. A “cookie” is a piece of text that our webserver can store on your computer. The cookies we use log your progress through the site and record how you accessed the site. They do not collect any personal information about you or about any other use of your computer.

There are no persistent or third-party site cookies such as banner ad tracking cookies on our website. We do not collect any personal information if you simply browse or download content from our website.

How We Use the Information

Logo Usage

The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario logo may not be used on your website. You are welcome to link to the College’s website using text.

Requests for Data

The College does not share information except through the Public Register. Anyone is welcome to go to the bottom of the Public Register webpage and download publicly available information in a PDF or CSV format.

Information available through the Public Register includes things like names, work addresses and work phone numbers.

All registered physiotherapists are required to provide the College with a working email address; however, this information is not public and cannot be shared.

Website Accessibility

We are committed to digital accessibility for everyone. We are continually improving the user experience and reviewing and applying accessibility standards.

Communication

We will communicate with people of all abilities in ways that meet their individual needs. Alternative formats and methods are available (for example large print, braille, audio, professional translators) and we will train our staff on how to interact and communicate with people of all abilities.

Assistive Devices

We are committed to supporting individuals who use assistive devices to access College services. We will ensure staff are trained and familiar with assistive devices that people may use when accessing our services.

Printed Material

We will provide printed material in alternative formats (for example large print, audio, braille), upon request. Staff are happy to help you complete forms or send you written material.

Telephone Services / Video Conferencing

We are committeed to providing fully accessible telephone and video conferencing services. Staff will speak clearly, slowly and use plain language. Alternative methods are available if telephone or video conferencing communication does not meet your needs or is not available.

Use of Service Animals and Support Persons

We welcome individuals who are accompanied by a service animal or support person.

When confidential information is being discussed, the consent of the person accessing our services will be obtained before discussing any confidential information in the presence of the support person.
