Board Highlights
- The Board approved the Boundary Violations Standard and the Sexual Abuse Standard, effective November 1, 2025. These new standards will replace the Boundaries and Sexual Abuse Standard, which will be rescinded.
- After careful consideration of the feedback provided and the available options, the Board voted to sunset the Provisional Practice Class with the transition to the new one-step Canadian Physiotherapy Examination.
- The Board approved a recommendation from the Risk, Audit and Finance Committee to not raise registration, administrative and examination fees for the 2027 financial year.
- The Board participated in an education session on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission with a particular focus on the calls to action related to health care.
- The Board agreed the College should pursue the development of an Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility Standard. College staff will now start exploring what the development process for this new standard should look like.
- The Board heard an update on the transition to the new Canadian Physiotherapy Examination, including how the College is increasing capacity of the Ontario Clinical Exam to support this transition.
- The Board provided feedback on a draft of the updated strategic plan for 2026-2030.
- The Board approved amendments to by-laws and governance policies to support the transition to the Health Professions Discipline Tribunals (HPDT) for a one-year pilot. The pilot will start on January 1, 2026.
- The Board heard a research presentation from a group of graduate students at the University of Toronto. The students’ work, supported by the College, examined how physiotherapists recognize and manage boundary violations.
- The Board confirmed the appointment of Sarah Hazlewood as the Academic Director representing Queen’s University, effective immediately, for the remainder of the three-year term ending in June 2027.
- The Board approved an amendment to the committee slate to fill a vacancy on the Examinations Committee.
- The Board directed staff to conduct a comprehensive review of the College’s Code of Conduct for Board and Committee Members and develop potential revisions for consideration. This is part of a regular process where the code is reviewed every three years.
- The Board approved the audited financial statements for the year ending March 31, 2025.
