Board Highlights
Highlights from the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario’s Council Meeting on March 25 and 26, 2024
- Council elected Nitin Madhvani as Chair (President) and Katie Schulz as Vice-Chair (Vice-President) for the 2024-2025 Council year.
- In addition to Nitin Madhvani and Katie Schulz, the following directors were appointed to the Executive Committee for the 2024-2025 Council year: Theresa Stevens (professional member), Gary Rehan (professional member) and Carole Baxter (public member).
- Council approved the budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.
- Council approved two draft Standards for 60-day consultation. Please visit the Consultations page to share your feedback on the following draft Standards:
- Evidence-Informed Practice
- Titles, Credentials, and Specialty Designations
- Council participated in an educational session about Indigenous rights and the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada. The goal of the blanket exercise is to build an understanding of our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
- Council participated in an educational session about trauma-informed, compassionate regulation.
- Council approved the following amendments to the Committee Slate:
- Appoint Frank Massey to the Quality Assurance Committee
- Appoint Greg Heikoop and Antoinette Megens to the Patient Relations Committee
- Council appointed Trisha Lawson as an academic representative from Queen’s University to Council, effective June 24, 2024 to June 2027.
- Council approved amendments to the College By-laws to establish new Meeting Guidelines for Board Meetings.
- Council approved the role description for the Committee Vice-Chair and the By-law and Governance Policy revisions to fully implement the Committee Vice-Chair model.
- Council approved changes to the governance terminology used by the College to better align with the organization’s public interest mandate and best practices in the regulatory community. Specifically, the terms Council, Councillor, President and Vice-President will be replaced by Board, Director, Chair and Vice-Chair. The College will work to implement these changes across all materials and channels over the next couple of months.
- Council approved a set of proposed changes to the College’s By-laws and Governance Policies to provide more flexibility regarding committee composition and to foster greater separation of Council and committees in line with governance best practices.
- Council received an update about the Ontario Clinical Exam (OCE).
